What has changed about Mothers Who Care?

Mothers Who Care has given birth and now has a larger family with an expanded vision!

Mothers Who Care is reaping the dividends of decades of prayer investment!  Under our God-given umbrella of authority, Power to Change (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ, Canada), we are clearly following the direction the LORD has set before us.  Through prayer and fasting, scriptural guidance, call and confirmation, opportunity and availability, a new prayer ministry has been birthed called Breakthrough.

Breakthrough  emerged from the expressed need of Power to Change to develop a united prayer strategy for cities. At the same time it became apparent the ministry of Mothers Who Care needed to widen their name to include the growing interest of fathers, grandparents, educators and students who shared the vision of praying God’s Heart for our Schools. As well, the answers from our MWC survey done in 2005 indicated a strong desire for a name change.   From these combined needs, a vision and strategy was birthed and after two years of development Breakthrough is officially being launched September 24, 2007.  Check out our Mission, Vision, Mandate.

Do we still use the MWC name?  Do I need new resources?

Groups currently involved in MWC will be able to continue using the MWC name if they prefer. All new groups formed, however, will receive the “Breakthrough” name.  We would encourage you to consider switching to Breakthrough as all future materials and resources will be from Breakthrough.

Current MWC groups do not need to purchase new resources but all new  Breakthrough resources will be provided online in a downloadable format. We encourage all groups to register.

Printed hard copy Breakthrough materials and resources will eventually be available for purchase.  For now all resources are web based.  Mothers Who Care resources and materials will no longer be available. There will be new resources such as posters and brochures downloadable for you to print (coming soon). Online Breakthrough materials will replace the MWC Tool Kit, Share Brochure, Principal Brochure, Heart for the Harvest Video, etc. (many of Breakthrough's materials is built and expanded from the MWC Tool Kit)

Was there a problem with what MWC groups were doing?

No!  In fact, quite the opposite is true.  MWC groups have been so effective and sustainable that we knew the time-tested and proven tools of MWC were totally transferable as a foundation in the development of Breakthrough.  Now in the cities and communities across our nation, even around the world, prayer groups can be formed to meet weekly using the ACTS format of prayer around common felt needs and burdens.  They can contend for the harvest of lost souls to not only include those represented in the educational domain, but also business, family, sport, church, arts/media, governments, military, humanitarian aid and military domains  of our cities both large and small.

Am I expected to find new people to broaden our own prayer group from just mothers?

No.  While we would hope you catch the vision of Breakthrough, we trust you will continue to be committed as a covering of prayer for your school that impacts the educational domain of your city or community. We also trust you will see how this expansion is really the fruit from years of faithful prayers like yours for God’s heart for the harvest!

We do encourage you, however, to sow the seed of Breakthrough’s vision to mobilize more prayer to contend for lost souls to widen the prayer coverage within your city or community. However, you are not expected to broaden your current prayer group.   All followers of Christ know someone or something they are burdened or concerned about that can use prayer. This strategy is a transformational activity.  You know how it works!

You could say, “Do you know what God is doing?!  Just as God has called me to pray for our schools because of my burden for ___________, God is also calling others to recognize that their burden for felt needs and lost souls is a call and opportunity for prayer and can have a direct impact in an area of influence in their city or community.  I know the difference this has made in my life and my school. Would you pray and ask God if He’s calling you to this transformational activity and start a Breakthrough group for your field of concern? Just go to www.breakthroughprayer.com and get started.”

You never know what may come for you sowing that seed. God is faithful. It’s His Call!

If you have any concerns we are more than happy to speak with you in person.  Just call 1.800.563.1106

Do I need to feel bad if I prefer to stay with just moms as a prayer group?

NO!  There is something very special about the journey you and I have been on with other like-minded moms. We honor and validate this and will continue to support those who choose to remain as such.  A possible option is to maintain your moms only group and think of beginning another Breakthrough Group with your spouses.   I don’t think we can ever pray too much!

At the same time we recognize there are many groups who have already expanded to include dads, grandparents, educators, student or are open to doing so.  We value each group because the goal is contending for souls!!! The one caution we do recommend is never to be a group of one man and one woman who are not married to each other. I'm sure you can appreciate that!

Does our structure change?

Yes and no.  There are two strategic roles Breakthrough will focus resources and training on:

  • Champions of Prayer for domains and cities
  • Groups of Prayer for felt need and lost people

The same transferable concept from MWC is being used for this structure - the size of burden often equals the size of call to serve.

Existing MWC Area/Regional Coordinators will be coached by Emmie Stanley, our Field Manager for MWC, to continue serving with the special focus of encouragement for groups in the educational domain.

Our vision is to see a Breakthrough champion team for prayer for every city great and small.  We envision this being a networked team of people who are called, united and gifted by God to call, mobilize and serve the body of Christ to pray for the needs of the city so the lost people of their city will come to know Christ. They are passionate to help fulfill the vision and mandate of Breakthrough and agree to our Statement of Faith and Core Values.   They will encourage and support all Breakthrough Groups from all domains for the advance of God’s Kingdom in their city.

What is a Breakthrough Group?

A Breakthrough Group consists of two or more people responding to God’s call to contend for the felt needs and harvest of lost people. Their burden likely corresponds to prayer coverage for a domain or area of their city or community.  They are registered with www.breakthroughprayer.com, and support the vision, mission, mandate and Statement of Faith partnering as they are called. They will be encouraged and assembled by a Breakthrough Champion team from their city as well as resourced and trained online at www.breakthroughprayer.com or onsite by Breakthrough’s Consultants.

What is a Breakthrough Champion?

A Breakthrough Champion is gifted and called to help lead and work with teams for a city-vision and mandate of Breakthrough.  Their scope of involvement may vary by gifting, but ultimately it is to support a Breakthrough city-vision - which is to advance of God's kingdom in the domains of a city.  They will be resourced, trained, supported and encouraged by Breakthrough consultants and website.  They also support and agree with Breakthrough's mission, vision, mandate and Statement of Faith  partnering as they are called.

Will you be directing people other then mothers to our group (teachers, fathers, students etc.?)

Each existing MWC group (those who began any time before September 2007) has the option of how you wish to proceed.  You may indicate your preference to continue serving as Mothers only, and that is TOTALLY okay.  If you choose this option you will need to indicate this intent online after September 24, 2007 and before October 31, 2007 on your registration form so we will NOT direct others to your group.  (Please forgive us already if we accidentally goof up during our transition – our aim is to accommodate your preference – we appreciate your grace as we work out whatever glitches we may not have anticipated with technology.)

Anyone new inquiring about the domain of education on our website will be encouraged to function as a Breakthrough group.   There will be a Group Finder by City and School that lists current activity. If it is your choice to remain as you are, there is a slight possibility of a new BPM Group starting independent from you who may share the same focus of prayer.  We trust this would be seen for what it is – a “Yeah God” for mobilizing more prayer coverage for that school!  Remember we are uniting together in prayer to contend for lost people and very real felt needs!

If your group is open to others joining you, you will need to indicate this preference after September 24, 2007 on your registration before October 31, 2007. Anyone new inquiring online about Breakthrough may be directed to contact you either wanting to join with your group or asking for information on how to begin a BPM group.  We would ask that you would be gracious to include those who wish to join you or to help them begin their own group.

Where should we meet?  What about a man and woman meeting alone?

We recommend continuing to meet as you have, in home, an office, driving, walking, over the phone, etc. Contract a consistent time together.  Breakthrough’s policy does not permit a group to consist of one man and one woman unless they are married to each other. This is obviously for protection.

Can groups now pray for more than one school?

Breakthrough groups can pray according to the felt need that brings them together.  If you have had the burden to contend for one school we recommend you please continue with that focus!  We believe God desires to work thru the burden He has laid on our hearts as we come to Him in faith and agreement!

Do we still engage in acts of encouragement?

YES!  If we are contending for God’s harvest of lost souls, we certainly better listen and watch for how God may want to use us, possibly as the very answer to the prayers we pray.  We recommend being Spirit -led and directed – which often comes out of our prayer times together.  This is often like a sensing or knowing that we should ... i.e. write a note of encouragement, drop off baking, invite to an outreach event, etc.

Do I still go to my Area or Regional Coordinator if I have questions, concerns or need training?

Yes.  Breakthrough has a Field Manager in place to serve MWC Area/Regional Coordinators who, in turn, will continue to serve you. If you do not have an Area or Regional Coordinator our Field Manager will serve you.

I am a Regional or Area Coordinator.  How does this affect what I’ve been doing?

God has provided us with a Field Manager who will specifically serve the existing Area/Regional Coordinators of MWC.  She will continue to train and encourage you with regular communication. She will also discuss with you the possibility of becoming part of a Breakthrough Champion Team for your City or Community.

If I have still have questions what do I do?

Questions can be handled in two ways.  You may email your questions to info@breakthroughprayer.com or you can call Toll Free 1.866.397.PRAY (7729).
