Champion a City Strategy

God promises that the whole earth will be filled with his glory as the waters cover the sea (Habakkuk 2:14). He is passionate about every person in every domain of society in every nation on every continent in encountering Jesus Christ. With more than half the world’s 6.4 billion people living in cities, followers of Christ must bring his message of hope and love to the cities of the world in order to participate in the fulfillment of God’s promise.

THE VALUE OF ASSESSMENT

Decoding Your City

Partnership Basics

Why take the time and effort to assess your city?

Good coaches scout their opponents before drawing up game plans. Good generals do reconnaissance and assess conditions on the ground before preparing battle plans. Good doctors diagnose their patients before performing surgery.
If such careful assessment provides a foundation for virtually any successful endeavor, how much more should strategic assessment be a foundation to reaching cities with Jesus' message of hope and love. This kind of assessment responds to our Master's call to sit down and calculate the cost before embarking on a significant endeavor (Luke 14:29). And it follows in the steps of Joshua and Caleb, the faith-filled leaders who spied out the land in advance of God's promised conquest (Numbers 13).
We trust that this assessment will help you and other Champions of Prayer in your city inquire, hear and obey to discern and develop God-inspired plans and strategies for expanding his kingdom and impacting your city with his love.  It will open the door to key demographics and gives a pulse on your city’s key influencers and their perspectives n in penetrating your city with the good news.
As we seek to inquire, hear and obey for the advance of God’s Kingdom we can play a strategic exercising our God-given authority in the domains of our city.  The result will be power to change as we discover, experience and inspire a faith adventure in Jesus Christ.

Taking the first step ...

YOUR DREAM, BURDEN OR VISION
The burden, dream or vision God has entrusted to you serves as a north star for your efforts to cover your city in prayer so the gospel can be proclaimed and embraced. This section walks you through a series of questions that helps you clarify what the dream is that God has given to you.   It also provides you with evaluative questions to help you assess your personal character and leadership as you pursue that dream.
We recommend that you and your leadership team walk through the questions on your own and then discuss your findings together.   It may be valuable to refer back to this section often to evaluate individual and team progress along the way.
DEFINING the DREAM

Recognize the Dream as a Call
Do you have a dream? Do you have a longing to see your home, your city, your world impacted by Jesus Christ? Do you have a burden and desire that you know only God can fulfill?  What is it? What does it look like?
The size of your burden is often the size of your call to serve and pray into. Every call is significant. God may have given you a burden or dream for your family, your business, your church, city etc. because he desires to use you to help them discover and experience a faith adventure with Christ and in turn inspire others. Just imagine being part of fulfilling your God-given dream.

Confirm that Call
When you have a call from God to become involved in a particular work, there are several signs that will help you confirm his call:

  • Scripture – God will often give you a Scripture verse or passage that validates your dream or vision. It’s a great idea to record that.
  • Confirmation from Others – God can confirm your gifts and calling through your spouse, prayer partner, pastor, friends, and family. Just ask.
  • Circumstances – Has God provided you with the time, gifting, energy, and passion to devote to this role? That may be obvious.
  • Peace – This will always lead and be the response of obedience

Answer the Call
The most common denominator in answering God’s call to serve as a champion is the awareness that we can not do this on our own. We are desperately dependent on God for every step.

Once your call is confirmed

  • Recognize he has called you to serve alongside others. You need each other. Choose early not to take offense but to work toward relational unity.
  • Pray and ask God to direct and reveal to you who the other called influencers are and what domains to the city they may represent.
  • Determine from the outset that it doesn’t matter who gets the credit.
  • Become familiar with the resources and tools that are designed to assist you in discovering his strategy of prayer and encouragement to fulfill the dream he’s given you or your team for your city, such as this assessment tool.
  • As you research, value, and engage the experts for your city, your scope of networks, partnerships, and impact will broaden. God will use all this to contribute to mobilizing more prayer coverage for your city and for the fulfillment of your dream.
  • The first step in realizing the dream and call God has given you for your city is to take time for a personal evaluation.  You will want to grow and develop as a leader during this process and to be willing to be stretched.  Click here  for questions to ask yourself as a growing and teachable leader and champion of prayer.

Look at the fields they are ripe and ready for harvest ...
